Author/Character Interview With Tahlia Newland

And we’re back with another Author / Character Interview, this time with Awesome Indies author Tahlia Newland, and the main character from her Diamond Peak series, Ariel…

Book Name: Lethal Inheritance

Author Name: Tahlia Newland

Character Name: Ariel

To start us off, Tahlia, can you sum up your novel in a tweet?

What if demons were real, & they kidnapped your mother & took her to a hidden realm? What if they fed on anger, & only you could save her?

So, how did you two meet and how long ago was it?

We met back in 2013 in a waking dream, a kind of vision.

What was your first impression of each other?

I was awed at her journey and flattered that she chose me to write her story. She figured I understood the kind of magic she used to defeat the demons, but wasn’t too sure if I had the ability to do her story justice. I vowed I’d learn what I needed to know to write a really good book.

Tahlia, what do you feel the worst about doing to Ariel?

Keeping her apart from Nick for so long.

Ariel, if you could say just one thing to Tahlia, what would it be?

Well done. The book is awesome.

Not just masks! Check out Tahlia’s store for hats and other steampunk accessories.

If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you each do?

Ariel: I’d go flying in the hidden realm and work on my sky dancing moves, or maybe take Nick and go realm-hopping. There’s heaps out there that we haven’t seen yet. Some are scary though, so maybe we’d just spend some time at the beach in the Lures—no demon can trap me there now.

Tahlia: Probably work on my masks (I’m an artist as well as an author and editor) or go bushwalking, or read or just laze in the sun and stare at the sky.

Ariel, what’s the worst thing you’ve ever done to someone? Why?

Probably kiss Jason just to make Nick jealous. What I did to Jason later was self defense.

Tahlia, what are you working on at the moment? And does Ariel figure in it?

I’m working on a second book in my Prunella Smith series. It’s an adult metaphysical romance. The first, World Within Worlds, was a metaphysical thriller. But I also just did a final edit on Realm Hunter which is the story of how Ariel’s parents got together. Nadima, Ariel’s mother, is the main character and she’s a secondary character in the Diamond Peak Series. I’ve submitted it to a couple of publishers.

What have you read in the last few months that you really enjoyed?

Actually the best book I’ve read for a while is Spiderworld by Richard Bunning. I edited it and AIA Publishing will be publishing it at the end of the month. It’s a quirky thought-provoking science fiction that stands out in my memory because it stays with you after you’ve put it down.

About the Book

Lethal InheritanceA scream pierces the night. Ariel jolts awake and watches in horror as demons drag her mother into a hidden realm. She finds help and sets off on a rescue mission. But to defeat the demons, who feed on fear and seek the enslavement of the human race, she must learn a secret esoteric wisdom to awaken the dormant, but potentially explosive, power of her mind.

Walnut, a quirky old wise man, guides her through treacherous inner and outer landscapes, and Nick, the powerful Warrior who travels with them, proves a dangerous attraction. Can Ariel defeat the sadistic demon lord before he kills her and enslaves her mother?

The stakes are high, death a real possibility. Fail now, and she fails humanity.

Recipient of the AIA Seal of Excellence & the BRAG Medallion for Outstanding Fiction. If you like the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, you’ll love this multi-award winning adventure series.

Get it on Amazon, or add it to your GoodReads shelf!
