In the next week, I may or may not become an expert in the structure and function of bedouin tents across North Africa and the Middle East. Just don’t ask me to pitch one…
hi there Intisar – I’m the woman who stopped you at Chessiecon to tell you what I thought of the panel you led (and I still think you did a great job!).
I’d like to suggest you go through the Society for Creative Anachronism for some of your research. I know there are a few folks who have done the research and created the tents, and they may be able to help out.
good luck with your research!
Oh, that’s a fantastic idea! Thanks so much for the tip! And also, thanks for your kind words about ChessieCon–it was my first con as an author and such a wonderful experience. I am hoping to make it back again soon–if not next year, then the year after. 🙂
if you’re on the book of faces, here are three groups that come to mind:
There is a gent who camps at a huge event near Pittsburgh every year and his tent is very Middle Eastern in appearance. I’d be willing to bet he’s in one of these groups.
Very cool! And thank you for the links; I am indeed on the ‘book of faces.’ 🙂 I will be sure to check these out and see what I can learn!
