Introducing "A Thousand Nights!"

I am so thrilled to share this amazing new book with you - coedited with Nafiza Azad, and bringing together the voices of 15 Muslim women writers from around the world.

Rather than a standard anthology, Nafiza and I took the fifteen gorgeous stories we received from our contributors - steeped in the mythologies and cultural heritages they are connected to - and wove together a frame story to hold them…A young woman leaves her empty home and the war-torn countryside to seek refuge across the desert, joining forces with another young refugee - and then two more.

As they travel, facing adventures and challenges (and adopting a cat), they tell stories - stories to bear them up, to give them hope, to help them understand what they are facing and how to get through it. Each story is a gift, and every step on this journey an act of hope.

Start the Sunbolt Chronicles!

The Sunbolt Chronicles feature a different sort of heroine from the Dauntless Path. Hitomi is full of tricks--in fact, I took a whole bunch of "chosen one" tropes and mixed them together for her. The result? A smart, scrappy, and seemingly superpowered street-thief-orphan-with-a-magical-secret. But if you know my writing, you knew my secret sauce is who my heroines are on the inside.

Hitomi starts off clever, compassionate, and really, really bad at planning (yes, she's a delight of a heroine for an epic adventure). As she goes barreling through her first adventure, she discovers that her actions have (sometimes drastic) consequences, but she never stops caring. And as she progresses through this series, and all those consequences come calling, it is Hitomi's heart - and the allies she brings around her - that will actually carry the day.

Sunbolt starts off as a bite-sized novel, but the storyline grows from there, with Debts of Fire clocking in at well over twice its size. The story remains fast-paced and fun, traveling through a land that pulls from historic cultures across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. And best of all? There's one final book coming!

Discover the Dauntless Path!

The Dauntless Path is my first series, and it’s near and dear to my heart.As a Goose Girl retelling, Thorn has got those fairytale vibes, along with some of my favorite tropes. But it’s also about escaping abuse and learning to find your own quiet strength. Alyrra doesn’t kick butt in the traditional sense, but she’s incredibly strong in her gentleness, and it’s her compassion that wins the day. Her relationship with Kestrin is more about respect than anything, and getting to those final pages was, for me, a dearly won moment of hope and peace.

Thorn might feel like a standalone (it’s kind of meant to), but Alyrra’s story is woven into Rae’s as well, so picking up The Theft of Sunlight gives you both a new story and a chance to catch up with some old friends. (Including our favorite smirking thief boy, Bren.) Rae’s story—continued in A Darkness at the Door—is all about uncovering webs of deception and taking down systems of corruption however you can. It's about persistence and all the allies, willing or not.

After all, when you realize that children are disappearing across your kingdom, and you decide to find out who’s doing something about it… chances are, the answer is going to be “you.” Even if you don’t have power or magic or, well, anything other than a sharp mind and a well-spring of persistence. Admittedly, smirking thief boys can also be helpful (slow burn fans, take note!).
